Journey into wheel throwing fundamentals

Discover the fascinating world of ceramics and learn the foundations of wheel throwing in this beginner-friendly pottery course at Atelier Alfar in Zurich. If you've always been curious about working with clay and experiencing the magic of shaping a piece with your own hands, this multi-session course is the perfect introduction.

With the guidance of an experienced instructor, you'll learn the essential techniques of pottery wheel throwing, from preparing and centering clay to creating your first functional ceramic forms. Step by step, you’ll discover how to transform a simple piece of clay into unique handmade objects while developing confidence and control on the wheel.

Throughout the course, you’ll explore the complete ceramic process, including wedging clay, throwing techniques, surface decoration, glazing, and finishing your pieces. You’ll learn how different shapes are created, how to refine your forms, and how colours and glazes can bring your creations to life.
